Getting Her Pink Back | A Self-Love Studio Photoshoot in Plymouth
One of the things I love most about self-love photography is that every woman arrives with a different story.
Some are celebrating a milestone. Some are rebuilding confidence after a difficult season. Others simply want to see themselves through kinder eyes.
This recent studio portrait session was about all of those things.
When we first spoke, she shared something that immediately stayed with me.
Since becoming a mother, she felt like she had lost a little bit of her "pink".
Not literally, of course, but the vibrant, colourful and confident parts of herself that had slowly become hidden beneath the responsibilities of everyday life.
Like so many women, she found herself reaching for comfortable black clothing, waiting for a future version of herself before allowing herself to be seen.
Waiting until she felt more confident.
Waiting until she lost weight.
Waiting until she felt more like herself again.
The truth is, there is no perfect moment.
And that became the heart of this self-love photoshoot.
Planning a Portrait Session That Reflected Her Personality
Before every women's portrait photography session, I spend time getting to know my clients and understanding the story they want their images to tell.
Together, we created a mood board filled with colour, softness, confidence and joy.
We explored outfit choices that reflected where she is now rather than who she thought she should become in the future.
Each look brought a different side of her personality to life.
Some felt playful.
Some felt powerful.
Some felt soft and feminine.
But together they told one story: a woman stepping back into herself.
Finding Confidence in Front of the Camera
One of the most rewarding parts of my work as a portrait photographer is watching confidence grow throughout a session.
Women often arrive feeling nervous, convinced they're awkward in front of the camera or worried they won't know what to do.
Within minutes, those fears begin to disappear.
This session was full of laughter, conversation and genuine joy.
With professional hair and makeup helping her feel her absolute best, she was able to fully relax into the experience and enjoy being the centre of attention for a change.
Not as a mother.
Not as someone else's partner.
Not as someone responsible for everyone else.
Just herself.
Celebrating the Woman She Is Today
After we lose the weight.
After life becomes less busy.
After we become a better version of ourselves.
But confidence doesn't arrive after those things.
Confidence grows when we choose to show up exactly as we are.
Looking through her final gallery, I could see the woman she had described before the shoot.
Soft.
Colourful.
Confident.
Powerful.
Present.
The woman who had been there all along.
After seeing her images, she shared these words with me:
"Since becoming a mother, I feel like I've lost a little bit of my pink. I've spent the last couple of years hiding in comfortable black clothes and waiting for a future version of myself."
And perhaps my favourite line:
"She captured me exactly as I am – soft, colourful, confident and powerful. Looking at the images, I genuinely feel like I'm getting my pink back."
For me, that's what self-love portrait photography is really about.
Not changing who you are.
Not becoming someone new.
But recognising the beauty, strength and confidence that already exists within you.
Sometimes all you need is the opportunity to see it for yourself.
Thinking About Your Own Self-Love Photoshoot?
If you've been waiting for the "right time" to book a portrait session, consider this your reminder that you don't need to wait.
You don't need to be a different size.
You don't need to feel more confident.
You don't need to become a future version of yourself.
You deserve to celebrate who you are right now.
If you're looking for a self-love photoshoot, empowerment photography or women's portrait photography in Plymouth, I'd love to help tell your story.
