The Portrait Experience
A portrait of you, in this chapter of your life.
Portrait photography for women who want to celebrate a new chapter, mark a milestone or make time for themselves.
You don't need to know how to pose or feel confident in front of the camera. I'll guide you through the experience, from planning your session to creating photographs you'll want to see on your walls.
Make time for yourself.
There are plenty of reasons to have your photograph taken. Perhaps you're celebrating a milestone, preparing to welcome a baby, adjusting to a new chapter or simply ready to do something for yourself.
Whatever brings you here, your session is an opportunity to take up space in the photograph, rather than always being the person behind the camera.
I'll help you work out what to wear, where to shoot and how to feel at ease in front of the camera. You don't need to arrive with a plan or know what to do. That's where I come in.
A VISUAL WORLD OF YOUR OWN.
Depending on your business, that might include:
Women's Portraits
Portraits to celebrate who you are now, mark a milestone or capture a new chapter in your life. Whether you have something specific to celebrate or simply want photographs of yourself, we'll create a session around you.
Maternity Portraits
Pregnancy marks a significant chapter in your life. A maternity session gives you the space to celebrate this time and create considered portraits of you and your changing body, before everything changes again.
Motherhood Portraits
You're often the one taking the photographs of your family. Motherhood portraits make space for you to be in them, too, whether that's photographs with your little one or portraits that celebrate you as a mother.
The Experience
A little direction goes a long way.
You don't need to know how to pose, what to wear or which location will work best. We'll work through those details together, so you can arrive knowing what to expect.
01 — Discover
We'll talk about what has brought you to the session, the photographs you have in mind and how you'd like to use or display them.
02 — Design
I'll help you plan the details, from outfits and styling to the setting and overall feel of your portraits. If you'd like hair and makeup, we’ll arrange this here.
03 — Create
During your session, I'll guide you through posing, expression and movement, giving you direction throughout. You don't have to perform for the camera or figure it all out yourself.
04 — Showcase
Once your photographs are ready, I'll guide you through choosing your favourites and exploring ways to enjoy them, whether that's finished wall art, an album or a collection of prints.
“We met for an initial consultation where we discussed how to make the shoot personal to me and my self love journey.
We discussed outfits and venues and Emma had great ideas and mood boards that she had created.
On the day Emma made me feel at ease as we took the shots, she directed me and also encouraged me to just be myself.
The images are a great example of me in my favourite place comfortable in my own skin - a beautiful empowering experience”
Tara - Women’s Portrait
A photographer who'll guide you through it.
I'm Emma, a portrait photographer based in Plymouth, Devon. I've spent 19 years photographing people, and I know that being in front of the camera doesn't always come naturally.
My approach is guided and considered, with time to plan your session around you. I'll help you find your feet, give you direction throughout and create portraits that feel in keeping with who you are and this stage of your life.
Sessions take place in my home studio in Plymouth or on location across Devon and Cornwall.

I recommend booking 3–12 months in advance to allow availability and planning time.
If you have a specific date in mind, please get in touch as early as possible. Occasionally last-minute availability may open up.
-
We'll discuss clothing and styling as part of the planning process. I'll help you narrow down options that work well for the look you're after, so you don't have to figure it out alone.
-
Many people choose to book during the second trimester, with the session taking place later in pregnancy, often between 28 and 34 weeks. Every pregnancy is different, so we'll discuss timing when you enquire.
