At Home Maternity Photography Session | Elegant Pregnancy Photoshoot Before Baby Arrives

There’s something incredibly special about photographing couples at this stage of their journey—engaged, excited for the future, and already beginning to step into the feeling of their wedding day.

Recently, I had the pleasure of working with a couple I’ll also be photographing for their elopement this year. They wanted a relaxed engagement-style couple’s photoshoot before the big day, with a focus on something natural, romantic, and a little bit wild. Their vision was a forest woodland location with water, somewhere they could feel completely themselves.

There’s something incredibly special about photographing a maternity session so close to the finish line of pregnancy. Just over a week before her due date, this mum-to-be invited me into her home to capture the final stretch of her journey into motherhood—surrounded by her husband, their dog Lana, and the spaces that already hold so much of their everyday life.

This wasn’t about creating something styled or staged. It was about documenting real life, exactly as it is right now.

Photographing at home brings a completely different feeling to a maternity session. Everything is familiar—the light coming through the windows, the textures of the rooms, the places where life already happens.

We used different spaces throughout their home to create a relaxed, natural flow to the session. Nothing felt rushed or overly posed. Instead, it was about slowing down, settling in, and letting moments unfold.

There’s a softness to home sessions that you can’t replicate anywhere else.

The quiet hum of everyday life. The warmth of familiar surroundings. The comfort of being completely yourself.

Including family, connection, and real moments

Her husband was there throughout the session, gently supporting and sharing in the anticipation of what’s to come. Their dog, Lana, also played a big part in the story—curious, affectionate, and very much part of their growing family.

Including pets in maternity photography adds such an honest layer to the images. It reflects what life already looks like before baby arrives, not just what it will become.

These are the moments in-between—the laughter, the touches, the way hands rest instinctively on a growing bump, and the way love quietly fills every corner of the room.

We also stepped outside for a few frames, right at the edge of home and nature.

Bare feet in the mud. Fresh air. A moment of grounding before everything changes.

There’s something powerful about that contrast—softness and strength, calm and anticipation, stillness and movement all at once.

It’s not about perfection. It’s about presence.

Maternity photography isn’t just about how this moment looks—it’s about how it feels.

  • The weight of anticipation in the final days before birth.

  • The sound of everyday life continuing around you.

  • The warmth of touch, the closeness, the quiet pauses in between.

  • The smell of home, familiar and grounding.

  • The feeling of connection—already deep, already complete, already love.

These are the things you forget over time if they aren’t captured.

This chapter of life moves quickly. Even when the days feel long, the season itself is fleeting.

A maternity photoshoot gives you space to pause it—to remember it not just as a milestone, but as a feeling.

Whether at home, outdoors, or somewhere meaningful to you, these sessions are about documenting your story as it is right now. Not polished. Not posed. Just real.
