Hey Subscriber First Name 17 years…That’s the last time we were all together, hanging out in the school canteen for our final day of school. Unknowing where we were heading next and who was coming along on the ride with us. You never know when the next time you’ll see someone, or when it’ll be your last. Savouring those moments and reminding yourself of the good times - that’s all we can really do. As fate would have it, last week I shared with you I’d been going through my old photo prints, organising and preserving them. When I was going through them, I came across those photos of my old school crew and wondered what they were all up to. So when it was mentioned that same week that some of us were in the same place at the same time and with an evening to spare, we agreed to meet up after all those years. I jumped at the chance to catch up with them again.
Several hours later, a few glasses down…reminiscing and reminding each other of old times, scrolling through the many photos of our adventures together, I felt a sense of a full circle.
We had all been on our separate paths experiencing different things, meeting new people, building businesses and starting families. It reminded me of what I had achieved in all that time and it felt liberating. It’s so easy to forget day to day and over time what we’ve actually done. To feel like you are stuck sometimes or havn’t experienced as much as you think. We even took a photo of us mimicking one of our last moments together in school! And comparing those two photos with each other told a story that only we knew as a group. Looking between the photo of myself 17 years ago to the one of me today told a thousands stories of what I’ve achieved and experienced in between. Photography can be such a powerful tool and it’s one I encourage anyone to experience. To be transported back to a time is such a magical thing to do, it’s the next best thing to a time machine!
