People have so many assumptions about having their photos taken as a newly engaged couple.

β€˜We don’t need them, we’ll be fine for our wedding day photos.’

β€˜Were so awkward in front of the camera, one less opportunity the better!’

β€˜We just don’t have the time for it with all the wedding planning.’


As a wedding and portrait photographer of couples for over a decade, I can say with certainty, that we need to flip those belief’s! And I’m here to explain to you why…

A few years ago, a couple booked me for their wedding and at the time we hadn’t met in person. As we approached the year of their wedding I mentioned the opportunity for a couples session before their wedding. Initially they said It wasn’t something they thought they needed, what could benefit them from it?

However as they listened to the reasons behind the suggestion, they quickly came to realise how much they needed AND wanted their couples session.

As with most of my couples, they arrived a little shy and unsure but at the same time excited about what was about to happen.

I guided them through various locations and ideas, letting them be with each other, watching them unfold in front of me so I could learn how they moved as a couple.

By the end of the session, as always, they had become friends with the camera. It didn’t intimidate them anymore and the laughter and smiles as they walked away from the session cemented all the reasons why I offer this service to my couples. It is truly a wonderful experience, connecting you both even more, opening up your journey to your wedding day and allowing me to tell your story.

Plus, were becoming friends on these sessions. I am your number 1 wedding fan over here btw!

I'll be honest we nearly didn't, but doing it made me realise to not leave it till the big day unless your super confident on knowing what to do.
